Lilypie Second Birthday tickers

Owen's big accomplishment this week was standing up on his own without holding on to anything. He has been walking well for a while but still needed to grab some furniture our our leg or a toy or something to give him some balance to stand up. But this week he did it on his own and now he stands up on his own very easily.

Owen had a fun weekend going to splash pads twice, a 1st birthday party, a family reunion, swimming twice in Grandma and Grandpa's pool, and lots of playing in our backyard while we enjoyed the beautiful weather. Here are some pics of Owen having fun in the sun this weekend:

Now that Mommy is back to work and Owen spends most of his days in daycare, the amount of pictures we are taking is much less :-(  But I still plan to update this blog regularly as I know many of you enjoy being updated on Owen, and its also a great place for me to write down all the new things Owen is up to (since I am not very good at updating his baby book).

So daycare seems to be getting a bit better for Owen. He still cries every morning when i drop him off, but when I pick him up he is always playing and having fun with the other kids and smiles when he sees me and gives me a big hug (he used to cry when he saw me, for pretty much the first week).  However the daycare provider says he is fussy sometimes, especially in the morning after I drop him off.  Hopefully that will get better.  He has 2 new teeth coming in so maybe that is what is causing it.  I do notice that he has these little mini tantrums (15 seconds or so) where he cries for no reason it seems. I am thinking maybe he is in pain.  The 2 new teeth that have broke through the gum are the top front right tooth, and then the top left tooth, but not the one in front, the one next to it.  So now at nearly 13 months old he has 4 teeth!

One funny thing that Owen has been doing while at daycare is not taking his bottle.  I drop him off with a full bottle everyday, but when I pick him up, Sue Sue usually hands it back to me usually almost still full. She said she tries to give it to him, at least twice or three times throughout the day but he always refuses it. But then when I pick him up and give him the bottle in his car seat on the way home, he drinks the whole thing! Its so weird. He has never refused the bottle in his whole life, but just wont drink it while at daycare!!

Other than being fussy in the mornings and not taking his bottle, he does seem to be adjusting pretty good to daycare. I always get the report that he eats very well (not a surprise) and he is good at going down for his afternoon nap and usually naps for 1.5 to 2 hours.  At his daycare he gets to take lots of feild trips- everyday they go somewhere. Either gymnastics, Bronte Park, story time at the mall or library etc.  Here is a picture of him at Bronte Park, that was sent to me from Sue Sue:

Owen had a goodweekend this past weekend with his Dad (while Mommy was away on a girls weekend in Niagara on the Lake). They went for a visit at Grandma and Grandpa Willetts house and went swimming and Daddy also took him to Coronation Park to the splash pad!  They had a good boys weekend and did lots of playing, eating, and napping together. Mommy sure did miss him when she got home!! While I was away Owen learned some new skills- he now knows how to turn him self around and crawl down the stairs on his tummy. I had never seen him do that before until this past Sunday. Nick said he was doing it all weekend.  We were so proud of him.   Another thing we noticed recently that he is now reaching up and trying to open doors as he can now reach the door knob. So we have had to make sure to put the baby proof handles on all the doors!

Discovered some old Photos from last year!

I was going through my old emails and stumbled across a few photos that my Dad had emailed me last July. He had taken them on his blackberry and I never ended up saving/printing them at the time. It is so neat to look back on pictures of Owen that I haven't seen before.  Most of these pictures were taken exactly this time last year in mid July. He was so tiny!! Such good memories...

peacefully enjoying the outdoors
I loved how adorable he was when he was all swaddled like this. He loved to be swaddled!

Life as a 1 year old

Life has been exciting for Owen since he turned 1. He had his 1st hair cut, 2 birthday parties last weekend, had his second week at daycare while I went back to work this week, had his 1 year doctor appointment with needles, and had his Grammy here visiting all week! He also has been walking, walking, walking! He loves it and each day gets better and better. We are so proud of him and its just so cute! He is proud of himself too and giggles alot when he is walking.

He was a very good boy at the doctor. He barely even flinched or cried for the 2 needles he had in his arm.  He got weighed and measured and is a big boy. Almost 28 lbs!! He is 90th percentile for his weight, 98th percentile for his height, and 100th percentile for his head size!

Owen made out pretty good at daycare this week but its been an adjustment.  He cries each morning when I drop him off and I was advised that on Wed he was crying/fussy for almost 2 hours after I left, and then the same thing for an hour on thursday. But once he forgets he starts to have fun and on Wednesday when my mom tried to pick him up he didn't want to leave! I get a journal write up each day from the daycare provider and she said that he eats very well (not a surprise), loves playing outside, especially on the water table, and is good when she takes him to the park. He also was very well behaved when she took the kids to storytime at the libary and enjoyed that. So I think he will be fine in the mornings eventually and will enjoy daycare.

Owen spent lots of quality time with his Grammy this week while she was here visiting and loved it.
Even though I didn't get to spend as much time with him this week we still had some great time together each evening. We went to the splash pad down by the lake twice this week, went for some nice walks, bike rides, and swims in Grandma and Grandpa's pool.

Here are some pictures from the week:
